Our Story
Built by Hockey Families, for Hockey Families
Beyond the Boards was founded right here in DFW — by parents who watched talented kids walk away from the game because the cost was too high.
How We Started
The Game Shouldn't Have a Price Tag
Travel hockey in DFW can cost a family $5,000–$10,000 per season. Registration fees, equipment, ice time, travel — it adds up fast. For families already stretched thin, that number isn't just steep. It's a door that stays closed.
Beyond the Boards was founded to open that door. We're a group of DFW hockey parents, coaches, and community members who believe that a kid's ability to play shouldn't be determined by their family's bank account.
We started small — a few families pooling resources to help a neighbor's kid get on the ice. Today, we're a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit with a formal application process, a dedicated board, and a growing network of donors who share our belief: every kid deserves the ice.
Our Mission
Remove the Financial Barrier to Youth Hockey
We provide direct financial assistance to low-income DFW families so their children can participate in travel hockey programs — covering registration fees, equipment costs, and travel expenses.
What We Stand For
Our Values
Community First
We're DFW families helping DFW families. Every dollar raised stays local and goes directly to kids in our community.
No Bureaucracy
We keep our process simple and personal. Families apply, our board reviews, and we respond quickly — no red tape.
Dignity & Respect
Every family we work with is treated with full dignity. Applying for assistance takes courage, and we honor that.
Accountability
We believe in being good stewards of every contribution. Donations help provide direct support to families facing financial barriers, allowing parents to use assistance toward the needs that help their children participate and thrive.
